Friendly Rivalry (Korean선의의 경쟁) is an upcoming South Korean mystery thriller television series based on webtoon of the same name by Song Chae-yoon and Shim Jae-young, starring Lee Hye-ri, Jung Soo-bin, Kang Hye-won, and Oh Woo-ri. It is scheduled to premiere on U+ Mobile TV in the first half of 2025.[1]

Synopsis

Friendly Rivalry is a high teen mystery thriller that deals with the precarious relationships of teenage girls in a survival competition that is more intense than college entrance exams.

  • Lee Hye-ri as Yoo Je-i, a genius high school girl who never misses the 0.1% spot at Chaehwa Girls' High School, which is home to the top 1%.[1]
  • Jung Soo-bin as Woo Seul-gi, a transfer student who receives special attention from Yoo Je-i.[1]
  • Kang Hye-won as Joo Ye-ri, the queen of gossip at Chaehwa Girls' High School. Joo Ye-ri is a person who values what others think and is obsessed with her looks and luxury goods.[1]
  • Oh Woo-ri as Choi Kyung, who has a complex that she can never escape being in second place no matter how hard she tries because of Yoo Je-i.[1]

The series would be directed by Kim Tae-hee and written by Kim Tae-hee and Min Ye-ji.[3] It was planned by STUDIO X+U and produced by Ylab Plex & STUDIO X+U. It is a dramatization of the webtoon of the same name written by Song Chae-yoon, illustrated by Shim Jae-young and produced by Ylab.[4]

Casting

On July 23, 2024, STUDIO X+U announced that Lee Hye-ri, Jung Soo-bin, Kang Hye-won, and Oh Woo-ri would work together to tell the story of high school girls.[5] On July 24, it was stated by Andbut Company that Choi Young-jae had been cast for the series.[2]
