FirEUrisk is a project funded by the European Union as part of the Horizon 2020 framework program. It is focused on evaluating and promoting an integrated science-based strategy to improve forest fire risk assessments in Europe.

Financing and duration edit

The project is funded through the European Union (€10,271,004) and coordinated with the Association for the development of industrial aerodynamics. The project duration lasts four years starting on April 1, 2021, and ending on March 31, 2025.

Objectives edit

The object of the project is to analyze fire risk and how to manage it by developing new tools that assess fire hazards and the vulnerability of communities and landscapes. Additionally, the project seeks to develop effective methods to reduce the risk and adapt current management strategies for future climate and socio-economic changes.[1] By bringing together researchers, stakeholders, and citizens and combine innovated techniques and policy recommendations to improve existing systems and methods at both the regional and European level.

These strategies will be tested in demonstration areas and will be implemented to help adapt all European countries to changing climate conditions.[2]

The project brings together 39 expert institutions from around the world.
