Author died 100 years ago?

If this photo was taken in 1917, and presumably the author was alive when it was taken, how can we claim no copyright because the author died more than 100 years ago?

Because that's not the only circumstance under which copyright expires. Read the copyright tags more carefully. DS (talk) 15:37, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
