More about this image edit

I sent Bob Hinden email about this map (which appeared in a presentation he gave at the Second IETF - a copy appears in the copy of his presentation slides in the Proceeedings of the Second IETF). Here's his reply:

That's a picture I haven't seen for a long time. I didn't know it was still around. It is a diagram that I actually edited for a while, though I don't think I did the first version. Looking at it closer, it looks like someone added some stuff to it. It is of (what BBN thought) was the Internet when BBN was responsible for the overall operations, so I think the caption on the wikipedia is correct.

(The person who added something was me (at about the time it was drawn, i.e. circa 1986. This is a scan of an original hard-copy which I had in my files; I had marked on it the routers that were running the CGW router code that I did at MIT. All I did was draw diagonal lines through the tiny boxes; I did not add any routers or networks to the image - as can be seen by comparing this one with the copy in the Proceedings.)

and a later message:

I can confirm it is authentic. I think was edited on a computer in my office :-)

So I think that should put to rest all questions about the map, and its caption (at least, the version that was on it at 17 Sep 2005 1:32:24 GMT, when Bob looked at it and wrote his email). At least, I would assume the person who drew it knew what it portrayed. Noel (talk) 04:25, 17 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Several pages in the Wiki link to this image, but as links (i.e. File:InetCirca85.jpg), not by including the image. Alas, in the Wiki software, this does not show up in the 'what links here' table.

So, please don't delete the image, because otherwise those links won't work any more. They include:
