The memorial gardens are on the hillside above Tirphil railway station. Until recently there were some trees obscuring the view behind the memorial but these have been removed with station improvements.
Tirphil is a village in Caerphilly County Borough and was in the historic county of Glamorgan. It is on the western side of the Rhymney valley. The houses in the background are in New Tredegar on the eastern side of the valley. New Tredegar is also in Caerphilly County Borough but was in the historic county of Monmouthshire, with the Rhymney River being the boundary between the two historic counties.
