The cathedral has Spanish Colonial Renaissance style facade, with Doric coupled pilaster columns, and windows with triangular segmented pediments. It also has four-story octagonal bell tower with lank and open windows.
San Pablo Cathedral was first established by the Augustinian friars in 1586, second church in 1629, and the present stucture was completed in 1714.
Patron: St. Paul the Hermit Bishop (Bishop Buenaventura Malayo Famadico) Vicariate of Saint Paul the First Hermit (Anba Boula) (Ava Pavly) — commonly known as Saint Paul the First Hermit or St Paul the Anchorite (d. c. 341) is regarded as the first Christian hermit. He is not to be confused with Paul the Simple, who was a disciple of Anthony the Great.
San Pablo City was part of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Lipa since 1910. On November 28, 1967, it became the independent Diocese of San Pablo.
