Sex between a female and a male. In Ostia Antica in the House of the Painted Vaults, a private house, there are two wall paintings of sexual scenes.[1] These wall paintings are thought to come from a mid-3rd century CE painting phase and have been painted over paintings beneath it that are from the 2nd century CE.[1] Three photographs from November 1938 show what these paintings looked like when excavations first began in 1938.[1] When exposed to the air and the dampness the wall paintings degraded over time.[1] In the 1950s they were removed form the wall. The paint was applied when the plaster was partailly dried and this made it fragile.
