Description
Svenska: Levantinska kompaniet, verksamt mellan åren 1738–56, kan jämföras med det mer kända Ostindiska kompaniet. Det handlade främst med det som kallades Levanten, nuvarande Turkiet. Asmund Palm, kompaniets representant i Konstantinopel (Istanbul), är avbildad i traditionell turkisk dräkt med turban och handen vilande på en kniv fäst i bältet. Kompaniet hade även en representant i Smyrna, nuvarande Izmir, och man importerade bland annat russin och kaffe.
English: The Swedish Levant Company, which was in business 1738–56, can be likened to the better-known East India Company. It traded primarily with the Levant, now called Turkey. Asmund Palm, the company’s representative in Constantinople (Istanbul), is depicted in traditional Turkish costume with a turban and his hand resting on a knife in his belt. The company also had a representative in Smyrna, now Izmir, and its imports included raisins and coffee.
