English: Monument in Holy Trinity Church, Ilfracombe, Devon, to Elionor Chichester (1629-31 March 1681), wife of John Cutcliffe (1632-1696) of Damage in the parish of Morthoe, near Ilfracombe, Devon, and daughter of Tristram Chichester of Hearsdon in the parish of Swimbridge, Devon, and co-heiress of her brother Tristram Chichester (1624-1654), whose monument is in Swimbridge Church. At top are shown the arms of Cutcliffe (Gules, three pruning hooks argent) impaling Chichester (Chequy or and gules, a chief vair) (The Chichester arms have here been repainted with incorrect tincture on the vair, which should be azure not sable). The crest above appears to be that of Chichester (usually it is the crest of the husband shown in this position) namely A stork holding in its mouth an eel. Also surviving in Ilfracombe Church is the monument to John Cutcliffe's parents, namely Charles Cutcliffe (1577-Oct 1637) of Damage and Grace Chichester (d.Nov.1637), a daughter of John Chichester of Hall in the parish of Bishop's Tawton, Devon.
Monuments of two of Eleanor's children survive in Swimbridge Church: Charles Cutcliffe (d.1670), an important monument with oil portrait by James Gandy; Christiana Cutcliffe (d.1721), wife of Henry Chichester of Stowford in the parish of Swimbridge. As stated on this monument, her eldest daughter Anna Cutcliffe (Mar 1653/4-Feb 1681/2) married Edward Fleming of Beare Charter (alias "Bere, Bere Charteray", etc.) in the parish of Braunton, Devon; on the left side of the monument are shown the arms of Fleming (Vair, a chief chequy or and gules) (The Fleming arms have here been repainted with incorrect tincture on the vair, which should be azure not sable) impaling Cutcliffe to represent this marriage (the arms of Fleming are by coincidence an inversion of the arms of Chichester); Elionor's other daughter mentioned on the monument is Elizabeth Cutcliffe (Feb 1658/9-Jan 1681/2) who married John Bury of Colleton in the parish of Chulmleigh, Devon. The arms of Bury (Ermine, on a bend engrailed azure three fleurs-de-lys or) impaling Cutcliffe are shown on the right of the monument. (Sources: Vivian, Lt.Col. J.L., (Ed.)
