DescriptionHell's Mouth and the site of RAF Hell's Mouth - geograph.org.uk - 621842.jpg
English: Hell's Mouth and the site of RAF Hell's Mouth The lighter green fields behind the sandy beach of Hell's Mouth Bay formed RAF Hell's Mouth between 1937 and 1945. A tiny airfield with grass runways, still it accommodated Blenheims and Whitleys and on one memorable occasion a Vickers Wellington X3541 piloted by a Pole. It had combined functions as a training base for bomber crews and airgunners and operated in conjunction with RAF Penrhos. The targets for the bombers were rafts which were floated in the bay, and the airgunners were trained on the ground on a railway borne moving target and in the air on targets towed by aircraft.
