Summary

Description
English: Guildhall, Quayside frontage. There is a nice photo of the east side of the Guildhall from the elevated viewpoint of the Tyne Bridge platform, here 1736639 The building is a composite of many periods, dating from 1655. The west part was greatly altered in the late 1790s. The classical south front shown here was remodelled in 1809 by John Stokoe. The east end, a Fish Market, with its Grecian columns, was rebuilt by John Dobson in 1823-5, copying the classical style on the south face (visible by the slightly brighter colour of the stone).
