The stadium was built on a date coinciding with the founding of Naval de Talcahuano, in 1949.

Is known for hosting the official debut of the "chilena" football technique in 1914, the stadium has retained its original structure and is considered a heritage site.

The stadium was severely damaged by the 2010 earthquake and tsunami but was remodeled and reopened in 2012.
