He had a five-year spell at NorCal Premier side Ajax United,[1] following a two-year stint with Lobos FC, before joining the Sacramento Republic in 2016.[2] In 2019, he signed a USL Academy contract with Sacramento, allowing him to play for the first team, but retain his college eligibility.[3][4]

In 2019, Berumen attended the University of California, Irvine to play college soccer. He went on to make 35 appearances over four seasons with the club, scoring a single goal and adding three assists. He was named Big West All-Freshman Team in his first season with the Anteaters.[2]
