Winston Craig was a chauffeur who drove and served as a valet for governors of Alabama. He advised governor Jim Folsom on issues related to African Americans.[1] Craig was dispatched by Folsom to meetings of black leaders and to help register black voters.[1]
He was appointed to the board of Tuskegee Institute. Governor John Patterson replaced him with a state patrolman.[2]
A play is based on his story.[3]
