Also, this is written like a CV rather than an encyclopedia article. For example, a timeline is not appropriate and should be written in prose with reliable sources supporting each fact. Prof. Willem Hoyng

Willem Hoyng is a Dutch IP litigator admitted to the Bar of Amsterdam and of the Supreme Court of the Netherlands[1]. He is also Professor of Industrial Property of the University of Tilburg[2]. In 2022 he was elected as chairman of the Advisory Committee[3] of the UPC (the Unified Patent Court). He is the author of numerous articles[4] in the field of IP, especially Patent Law.

Willem Hoyng argued several landmark decisions in the European Court of Justice and the Dutch Supreme Court. Chambers qualified him as absolutely stellar and one of the best patent litigators in Europe and as the best patent litigator in the Netherlands[5].

Willem is a prominent legal professional with a diverse educational and career background. He completed military service until 1968 before pursuing a law degree at Leyden University, where he also worked as a student assistant and assistant professor in civil law. After becoming a member of the Dutch Bar in 1973 and working as a lawyer at Blackstone Rueb & Van Boeschoten (nowadays De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek), Willem became a partner at the same firm, where he made significant contributions to the legal profession.

During his career, Willem served as general counsel for Windsurfing International in Los Angeles, USA and established the London office of De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek, where he served as resident partner until 1994. He obtained a PhD in "Repair in Patent Law" and became a professor of Industrial Property at Tilburg University the same year, where he shared his expertise with students and colleagues, until his valedictorian address in 2023.

In 2003, Willem founded the law firm Hoyng Monegier (now HOYNG ROKH MONEGIER)[9], where he served as managing partner until becoming of counsel in 2020. His career has spanned multiple countries and areas of law, including civil law, patent law, and industrial property. He is widely respected in the legal profession for his extensive experience and expertise.

Willem's contributions to the legal profession have been recognized through numerous awards and honors, including his appointment as a member of the Bar of the Supreme Court of the Netherlands in 1973. He continues to be an active member of the legal community, sharing his knowledge and experience with others and making significant contributions to the field.
