Trusted Workforce 2.0 is a comprehensive overhaul of the US federal government's security clearance and personnel vetting process. It was launched in 2018 in order to improve the ability to onboard and moved trusted workers across the federal workforce, including direct government employees and contractors. Implementing Trusted Workforce has involved updates to dozens of government policies related to personnel vetting including federal investigative standards and adjudicative guidelines.[1] Born out of serious issues with the security clearance process, including security clearance processing times of more than 500 days[2], the initial aspects of Trusted Workforce aimed to reduce the pending caseload and improve processing times for national security elgibility determinations. Overall, Trusted Workforce aims to look at trusted workers differently and create different vetting scenarios for initial clearance applicants, upgrading, transferring, and reestablishing trust. One of the key elements of Trusted Workforce is the move from episodic periodic reinvestigations to a Continuous Vetting scenario, which includes ongoing automated checks of cleared workers.[3][4]
