There are two major leagues that have shaped English futsal: The National Futsal League (NFL) and The National Futsal Series (NFS). NFL, which was first established in 2008, was the top tier of futsal in England until 2019. A reorganization took place when NFS[1] came on board during the same year, with NFS[2] being ranked as the tier 1 and tier 2 as a result of which NFL was moved to tier 3 position. This restructuring changed not only the competitive framework but also raised the profile of the game within UK.
The records of these leagues are filled with stories about leading goal scorers whose exhibitions captured fans’ imagination and set demanding standards for excellence. The tale of these top goal scorers from Jay Corran’s initial dominance in the Premier League up to recent various shifts speaks volumes about how this sport has transformed over time.
One figure that stands out in this narrative is Alejandro Maroto[3] who has left his indelible mark on its history. Besides becoming a top scorer at such an early age of 16 (which means he is still holding such a record), Maroto’s total score of impressive fifty-seven goals within twenty one matches makes him an unbeatable all-time best goal scorer in this league. His accomplishments epitomize the highest scoring ability that shows how young people are driving the game.
The detailed accounts of top scorers from each season, presented below, epitomize these athletes’ remarkable skills and pivotal contributions. It is also a recollection that not only celebrates their personal victories but also highlights the increasing competition and popularity of English futsal enhanced by diverse talents across the world and strategic brilliance demonstrated by individuals such as Jordan Matthews or Raoni Medina who have won many titles in various seasons and an all-time top scorer, Alejandro Maroto.[4]
Moreover, the diversity of the leagues is reflected in the international backgrounds of the top scorer; this demonstrates how Futsal has become a global sport that embraces people from different nationalities. Gonzalo Gonzalo, Jose De Souza, Jose Lozano as well as Denilson Silva have all come from different cultures in futsal with distinguishable styles where they are presently competing against each other to bring about diversity.
