Early life and education

edit

Todd Sherry was born in Meadville, Pennsylvania, to Ruth Anne Miller Sherry-Knott and James L. Sherry. He was the youngest of three boys. His paternal great-grandparents came to the U.S. from County Cork, Ireland while his maternal side of the family arrived here in 1629, having abandoned the Viking life in Normandy around 1500.[1] He graduated magna cum laude from Clarion University of Pennsylvania in 1983.[2] While at college, Sherry won the Daniel Preuss Award for excellence in musical theatre for his performance as T.R. in Tintypes.[3]

Sherry's mother passed away August 6, 2007, and his father passed away on February 20, 2005, as a result of throat cancer.[3]

His first cousin once-removed, Vince Sherry, was brutally murdered along with his wife in the mid-'80s. This, along with the Dixie Mafia became the subject of the 1996 best-selling true crime novel entitled "Mississippi Mud" by Edward Humes.[3]

Before acting full-time, Sherry worked as a waiter at Hard Rock Cafe, New York, while Vincent D'Onofrio worked front-door security there.[3] In 1996, Sherry was a singer on an around-the-world cruise.[4]

Early Career

edit

Sherry was a winning contestant on three game shows: You Lie Like a Dog (2000), Smush (2001), and Hollywood Showdown (2000).[3]

Sharon Stone, American actress, painter and former model, was also born in Sherry's hometown of Meadville, Pennsylvania. In 1975, when Sharon Stone won the Miss Crawford County Fair Pageant, Sherry was the boy singer at the event.[3][5] Also, Stone ran onstage to hug Sherry after one of his a Los Angeles performances, where he was starring in the play "Doing Judy!".[3]
