Tim Richards, Founder and CEO of Vue, Europe’s largest privately owned cinema chain, founded Vue in 2003 following the launch of SPC International Cinemas in 1999 and the acquisition of Warner Village UK’s 36 movie theatres[1] following almost a decade working for UCI Paramount/ Universal and then Warner Bros International Theatres[2].
In both 2020 and 2021, Variety Magazine included Tim on its Variety 500 list of influential business leaders shaping the entertainment industry, siting Tim as “one of the official leaders of the country’s film industry”.[3]
In February 2021, the government, on a recommendation from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, appointed Tim as Chair of the British Film Institute[4] having joined the BFI as a Governor in 2013 .
Married with three children and a graduate of McGill and Windsor Universities[5], Tim’s interests are his family, films and sports, having initially left school to be an international ski racer[6]. In 2010 he was invited to carry the Olympic torch as part of the Vancouver Winter Olympics and again in 2024 for the Paris Summer Olympics.
