Thomas Peter Saffold was a lawyer and judge in Madison, Georgia. He was a delegate to Georgia's secession convention and despite early opposition eventually voted for secession. He served in the Home Guards during the American Civil War. After the war he became a Republican. He supported voting rights for African Americans and voted for Ulysses S. Grant for president in 1868.[1]

Seaborn J. Safford was his father. Isom H. Safford was his brother.[2]
