The Sheikettes were an American band active in the late 1970s. The group consisted of Avril Giacobbi, Carol Connors, and Sharon Osbourne. They are primarily known for their 1978 maxi single "You Can Strike Oil - In Hollywood," which was released via Jet Records.

History

edit

The Sheikettes were formed by three women, each with a unique background in the music and entertainment industry.

  • Avril Giacobbi brought a fresh perspective and innovative approach to the group’s music. While less widely documented, she played a key role in the formation and sound of The Sheikettes.
  • Carol Connors (born Annette Kleinbard on November 13, 1940) is a renowned American singer and songwriter. She first gained fame as the lead vocalist of the Teddy Bears, with their hit song "To Know Him Is to Love Him." Connors is also known for co-writing "Gonna Fly Now," the theme song for the film Rocky (1976), and "With You I'm Born Again" performed by Billy Preston and Syreeta.
  • Sharon Osbourne, who would later become widely known for her role as a music manager and television personality, provided a managerial backbone to the band while also contributing vocally.
