The Grand Market is a mall located in a neighborhood in Kenosha, Wisconsin called Graham City. The Kenosha Mall is near the mall. The mall has a unique pattern, with the center court a square and the mall has 4 wings for the 4 anchors, and the wings are attached to the center court as rectangles, with one skywalk for each wing connecting the wing to the anchor store. The mall is a cross shape. It is also known as The Kenosha Quad
History
editThe Grand Market opened in 1982 with 4 anchors, Wieboldt's, Carson Pirie Scott, Sears, and Gimbels. The mall is most known for having the only Wieboldt's and Carson's in Wisconsin. The original developer was strict on the mall's layout, and threatened the construction workers to sue them if they leave imperfections. Wieboldt's would close in 1987, along with Gimbels, which became a Marshall Field's, and then H. C. Prange in 1988
The Kenosha Mall opened nearby in 1991, with Bed Bath & Beyond, JCPenney, and another Sears and H. C. Prange, and also a Sears catalog outlet store which became a JCPenney outlet and then an ice rink arena and swimming pool
The H. C. Prange in both of the malls got rebranded to Younkers in 1992
TJ Maxx replaced Wieboldt's in 1994
Younkers would close in The Grand Market in 1999, then Carson's closed in 2005. Kohl's replaced Younkers in 2006, and JCPenney relocated from the Kenosha Mall to replace the former Carson's in 2007. The former JCPenney in the Kenosha Mall became a Steve & Barry's, then a Sports Authority, then Hobby Lobby
Lawsuits between The Grand Market and Kenosha Mall hurted both malls, and many business are shutting down
Springie's, a clothing, decor, and pet store closed it's store nearby the mall in 2016
One of the stores outside the mall is an Elise's Discount Warehouse Club, a warehouse club made by a store owned by JCPenney Holdings, Elise's. The warehouse club closed in 1988 and became a Chicago Furniture Market in 1991, which closed in 2013, and became a Menards
Sears closed it's store in The Grand Market in 2018 after filing for bankruptcy. The store closed one year after the Sears in Kenosha Mall closed in 2017
Von Maur announced plans to replace the former Sears in The Grand Market
