Draft:St. Joseph's Church, Hong Kong

St. Joseph's Church at 37 Garden Road on the Mid-levels, Victoria City, Hong Kong is a church officiated and blessed on 20 November 1872. It represented one of the only three remaining Catholic churches at that time in the colony, the other two being the Immaculate Conception Church then located in Wellington Street in Choong Wan, and the Church of St. Francis Xavier near St. Francis Yard, Wan Chai.[1][2]

The church was established by bishop Timoleon Raimondi, the last prefect and the first vicar apostolic of the colony. The construction of the church was attributed to the dedication and efforts of many parties, including the Hong Kong Government, local Christian communities as well as the Jewish agencies.[1]

It was completely swiped off by a severe typhoon in September 1874. The redeveloped building was completed in 1876. It was erected as a parish church on 25 January 1949.[3] Given its location the church is a popular venue for prayer and worship. The ten masses on every Sunday and three daily masses make it a busy church.[1]
