Southern Pacific 4443 was a class "GS-4" 4-8-4 "Northern" type steam locomotive that was built by the Lima Locomotive Works in April 1941 for the Southern Pacific Transportation Company.[1]
History
editSouthern Pacific 4443 was manufactured in April 1941 by the Lima Locomotive Works and it arrived on the Southern Pacific Transportation Company that same month and year in 1941.[1]
The locomotive was used for passenger service for the Southern Pacific Transportation Company for much of its career such as the Coast Daylight.[2]
In 1957, No. 4443 had pulled the Southern Pacific's "Fresno Flyer" excursion train along with Southern Pacific class P-8 No. 2475.[3][4] After pulling the Southern Pacific's "Fresno Flyer" excursion train along with Southern Pacific class P-8 No. 2475, No. 4443 was retired from active service on the Southern Pacific Transportation Company that same year and it was scrapped in 1958.[3][4]
In films
edit- Southern Pacific GS-4 No. 4443 had made an appearance in the opening credits of the 1957 Frank Sinatra film Pal Joey.[5]
