Snyder Funeral Homes is the largest family-owned and operated funeral service provider in Ohio with sixteen locations in nine counties.

History

Snyder Funeral Homes was established in 1922 by Ora O. Snyder and his wife Marion Lucas Snyder in Johnsville, Morrow County, Ohio. Of their thirteen children, four joined their parents in the family firm.[1] Ora's sons Richard A. Snyder, Robert L. Snyder, and Phillip C. Snyder incorporated the business on January 2, 1963.[2] As of 2024, sixteen descendants of Ora & Marion have become Ohio licensed funeral directors.

The company operates multiple locations, including Snyder Funeral Homes, Fredericktown Chapel known as the Tuttle House on the National Register of Historic Places,[3][4] and Snyder Funeral Homes, Denzer Chapel in Marion listed as the Cummin's Home on the building's historical marker.[5]

As of 2024, the Snyder Funeral Homes website lists sixteen locations in Ashland County, Crawford County, Delaware County, Knox County, Marion County, Morrow County, Richland County, Union County, and Wyandot County.

Notable Clients

  • Snyder Funeral Homes, Denzer Chapel in Marion was the funeral home of President Warren G. Harding, at that time under the direction of funeral director Franklin Schaffner.[5] The Snyder family purchased this location in 2006.[6]
  • Senator Sherrod Brown selected Snyder Funeral Homes, Finefrock Chapel in Mansfield to serve his family upon the death of his mother.[7]
