Draft:Sheikh Mustafa Haji Ismail Harun

  • Comment: See WP:COI. It is not acceptable in an encylopedia to write something like "often regarded as a paragon of knowledge and an epitome of wisdom, embodying profound understanding and discernment" and source this to the subject's own lectures! Greenman (talk) 06:54, 11 April 2024 (UTC)

Sheikh Mustafa Haji Ismail Harun is a well-known sheikh in the area where Somalis live,[1] and he is a preacher who is widely known for spreading the cause of Islam and developing human potential.[2]

Personal life edit

Sheikh Mustafa was born on the outskirts of the rural town of Burao in the Togdheer region, before the independence of the Republic of Somalia between the 1940s – 1960s.[1] His family were priests; his father was known as Haji; he was a sheikh; and his great-grandfathers were scholars. Sheikh and his family lived in Aden, Yemen, for 45 years and returned to the country in 1963.[3]

Education and career edit

Sheikh Mustafa pursued his early education in the Togdheer region, completing primary school before graduating from the German Institute in Burao. Specializing in electrical engineering, he furthered his academic journey at the University of Somalia, obtaining his degree in 1980.[4]

The sheikh worked as a teacher at the Institute of Electrical Engineering German in Burco for a year and a half. After being arrested by the Somali government at the time,[5] he was imprisoned in many places, including the police station, NSS, Gulwade Camp, Military camp, and prisons. He sometimes spent years in prison but was never brought to trial.[6]

In late 1974, Sheikh Mustafa encountered the renowned preacher Sheikh Abdulkadir Nur Farah during a Hajj season.[7] Sheikh Mustafa mentioned that he was part of the group to whom the books on Usul al-Fiqh (Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence) and Mustalah al-Hadith (Hadith Terminology) were taught by Sheikh Abdulkadir.[8]

After relocating to Burao in northern Somalia, Sheikh Mustafa memorized these books 13 times. He also asserted that the knowledge of Uslu,[9] for which Sheikh Abdul Karim Hasan Hosh gained renown as a prominent Usuli scholar in Burao, originated from the treatise on Uslu that was taught to their group. His religious education was under the guidance of esteemed scholars in Somalia, with Sheikh Abdulkadir Nur Farah serving as his mentor.[10]

Sheikh Mustafa has a Norwegian passport, and he is a cleric and scholar known for his diverse knowledge and sagacity. He is recognized for his contributions in various fields, including Islamic theology and jurisprudence. As a cleric, he holds a leadership role within the Muslim community.[11] His educational background spans multiple disciplines, reflecting a comprehensive understanding of religious studies and potentially other academic areas.[12]

Sheikh Mustafa is acknowledged for his wisdom and discernment, contributing to his respected position in both the Somali and Norwegian Muslim communities.[13] Sheikh Mustafa Hajji Ismail Haruun is often regarded as a paragon of knowledge and an epitome of wisdom, embodying profound understanding and discernment within his role as a Muslim cleric and scholar.[14]
