Saults is a French pop-rock band formed by brothers Antoine and Greg Saults. Their music blends elements of pop and rock with melodic harmonies and dynamic instrumentation. One of their recent triumphs includes the viral success of their latest song, "Only Place to Hide," which amassed over 3 million views on TikTok. The song quickly gained traction on radio platforms, fueled by the buzz surrounding the guitar solo that concludes the track.[1]
Formation and early days
editAntoine and Greg Saults grew up in Villeneuve-sur-Lot in a musically inclined family. Their grandmother was an opera singer, their grandfather a saxophonist, and their father a pianist. Antoine began playing guitar at six, inspired by artists like Prince, Paul McCartney, and Eric Clapton. Greg started playing drums three years later.
Saults officially formed in 2014 after the brothers played in various school bands. Axel Castets joined them on bass, solidifying the group's lineup.[2][3]
Move to London
editIn 2017, Saults relocated to London to immerse themselves in a larger music scene. They faced challenges during their first year but persevered by playing in local venues. They recorded "Kelly Ride" at Abbey Road Studios and performed at the Love Supreme Jazz Festival. Their music received airplay on BBC radio, and they garnered praise from Pete Townshend of The Who, who compared them to The 1975.[4][5]
Breakthrough in France
editIn 2023, Saults released "VOST FR," an EP marking their transition to French-language expression. The track "Only Place to Hide," dedicated to a deceased friend, achieved considerable success in France.[6][7]
Musical style and influences
editSaults' music is a fusion of pop and rock, characterized by vocal harmonies and energetic instrumentation. While primarily influenced by Anglo-Saxon music, they have incorporated French musical elements into their style.[8][9]
