SIMA Studios is a non-profit media organization dedicated to promoting social impact storytelling through film and media. Founded in 2012, SIMA Studios aims to amplify the voices of filmmakers and activists worldwide, addressing pressing social and environmental issues through visual storytelling.

History

SIMA Studios was established in 2015 by Daniela Kon Lieberberg[1]. The organization originated from the Social Impact Media Awards (SIMA), an annual documentary competition launched in 2012 to recognize outstanding films focused on social and environmental issues.[2] Over time, SIMA expanded its scope to become SIMA Studios, evolving into a multifaceted platform that supports filmmakers, hosts screenings and events, and provides educational resources to empower audiences, educators and changemakers worldwide[3].

Activities

SIMA Studios organizes the annual SIMA Awards, which honor excellence in social impact storytelling across various categories, including feature-length documentaries, short films, and virtual reality experiences. The awards serve as a platform for filmmakers to showcase their work and connect with audiences passionate about social change.[4]

In addition to the SIMA Awards, SIMA Studios hosts film screenings, workshops, and panel discussions to engage audiences and foster dialogue on pressing social issues. The organization collaborates with grassroots organizations, educational institutions, and cultural institutions to amplify the impact of its initiatives and reach diverse audiences worldwide.[5]

SIMA Studios also operates SIMA Academy, an educational platform that provides educators with curated film collections and teaching resources to facilitate discussions on social justice, human rights, and environmental sustainability in the classroom.[6]

Impact

Since its inception, SIMA Studios has supported hundreds of filmmakers and screened thousands of films globally, sparking conversations and inspiring action on a wide range of social and environmental issues. The organization's work has been recognized[7][8][9] for its commitment to promoting empathy, understanding, and positive change through the power of storytelling.
