The Roman Catholic Institute (RCI) is a sedevacantist congregation of traditionalist Catholic priests founded by Bishop Donald Sanborn[1], an American bishop known for his promotion of sedevacantism and sedeprivationism.
The purpose of the Roman Catholic Institute[2] is to make explicit the theological, liturgical, and pastoral principles which guide the actions of its clergy, who adhere to the Thesis of Cassiciacum.
History
editThe Roman Catholic Institute was founded after Bishop Donald Sanborn had been the head of Most Holy Trinity Seminary for many years. Bishop Donald Sanborn had previously been the rector of St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary of the SSPX, an organisation of priests who acknowledge Francis as a true pope but disobey him.
On February 22, 2018, Bishop Sanborn consecrated his intended successor, Joseph Selway, as a bishop, with Bishop Geert Stuyver of the Istituto Mater Boni Consilii (Verrua Savoia, Turin, Italy) and Bishop Daniel Dolan (from West Chester, Ohio) assisting as co-consecrators.[3]
Present day
editThe Roman Catholic Institute is presently active in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Poland, and Australia[4], where its clergy offer Mass, hear confessions, and make known the theological principles[5] which guide the Institute.
