Pollution refers to the introduction of harmful materials or energy into the environment that cause adverse change[1] These "pollutants" can be physical substances like chemicals or trash or even types of energy like excessive noise or heat. Pollution disrupts the natural balance of ecosystems and can have detrimental effects on human health[2] .Ghana, a country in West Africa, has serious pollution-related environmental problems. This problem has an impact on public health, economic growth, and the nation's general well-being because it impacts the air, water, and land.

Types of Pollution

Air Pollution

edit

The release of chemicals, particulate matter, or biological elements into the atmosphere that endangers ecosystems or injures people or other living things is known as air pollution. Health issues brought on by air pollution can include infections, altered behavior, cancer, organ failure, and early mortality.

Sources

edit
  • Urban centers: Vehicle emissions, particularly from older vehicles with less stringent emission standards, are a major source of air pollution in urban areas [3] Industrial activity (factories, power plants) that utilize outdated technologies or lack proper emission controls also contribute significantly. Open waste burning, a common practice for disposing of household and commercial waste, releases harmful pollutants into the air
