Paulina Ewa Hławiczka-Trotman – is the current Bishop of the Lutheran Church in Great Britain (LCiGB)[1]

Biography

Bishop Paulina comes from Cieszyn Silesia (Skoczów/Ustroń)[2]in Poland. She graduated from the Faculty of Theology of the Christian Theological Academy in Warsaw.[2]

In 2014, she was ordained as a Pastor in London to serve in the Lutheran Church in Great Britain by the then Bishop, Martin Lind. Rev. Paulina Hławiczka-Trotman was appointed as pastor of the parishes in Nottingham (in 2014), Corby (in 2015–2024) and the Polish Congregation in London (in 2021). Bishop Paulina also continues to serve as a Lutheran and ecumenical chaplain of the University of Nottingham.[3]

Paulina has also served as a member of the Council (Trustees) of the Lutheran Church in Great Britain and a leader of the training group on Racial Justice.[4]

In April 2023, she was one of three candidates for bishop of the LCiGB. During the Synod on 22 April 2022, Rev. Dr. Jaakko Rusama was elected bishop but, due to complications, in consultation with the LCiGB Council, he decided to withdraw from the role before taking office.[5] During the extraordinary session of the Synod of the Lutheran Church in Great Britain on 23 September 2023, she was elected bishop of the LCiGB.[4]

The episcopal consecration of Rev. Paulina Hławiczka-Trotman took place on 20 January 2024 at St. Mary's Anglican Church in Nottingham. The act of consecration was performed by Bishop Jāna Jēruma-Grīnberga, former bishop of the Lutheran Church in Great Britain, Bishop Tor Berger Jørgensen, outgoing bishop of the LCiGB, and Bishop Paul Ferguson, former Church of England Bishop of Whitby.[6]

Bishop Paulina also serves as the 4th president[1] of Churches Together in England[7]
