Overton Gentry Ellis (or O. G. Ellis; October 26, 1860 – November 6, 1940)[1] was a justice of the Washington Supreme Court from 1911 to 1918, serving as chief justice towards the end of his term.
Born in White Cloud Township, Nodaway County, Missouri.

"In 1884, Judge Ellis married Miss Jennie Wilhite, daughter of P. G. Wilhite, Kansas City pioneer", with whom he had two children.[1]
He died at his home in Tacoma, Washington, at the age of 80.[1]
Overton G. Ellis, an attorney of Tacoma, formerly of Kansas City, has been appointed a judge of the supreme court of Washington by Governor Hay. Mr. Ellis was born in Nodaway County, Missouri, and is a graduate of the University of Missouri and of the law school of the University of Virginia. He came to Kansas City in 1887 and practiced law here six years, removing to Tacoma, in 1893, where he has since lived.[2]
Overton Gentry Ellis, aged 50, prominent Tacoma Democratic attorney, was today appointed member of the State Supreme Court to succeed Judge Rudkin, recently appointed Federal Judge for Eastern Washington.
Two years ago Ellis was chairman of the local committee to investigate charter commission form of government. He served one term of two years as city attorney by appointment. His appointment gives Tacoma two members of the Supreme Court of nine members. Judge Ellis was born in Nodaway county. Mo., being graduated from the Missouri State University at Columbia in 18S3.
Two years later he graduated from the law school of the same university and began to practice at Maryville, becoming assistant prosecuting attorney of Nodaway county. In 1887 he moved to Kansas City and became attorney for an Investment company. He moved here in 1902 as attorney and receiver's agent for the concern in Washington, Oregon and Idaho. In 1904 Judge Ellis married Miss Jennie Wilhite of Kansas City, who has become one of the leaders of women's club affairs in Tacoma.[3]
