History edit

Established in 2017, New Book Authors Publishing operates outside the confines of traditional or hybrid publishing models, instead identifying itself as a nontraditional publisher.

New Book Authors Publishing's business model is distinct from both traditional (assuming financial risk and payment from book royalties) and hybrid publishing models (where authors share most of the costs and the publisher receives payment from a portion of book royalties).

Under the non-traditional model, they utilize print-on-demand services and accept manuscripts based on quality, evaluation of writing, story, and overall merit, similar to traditional publishing. However, unlike traditional and hybrid models, authors retain all of their royalties (less production costs and distribution), publishing rights, distribution rights, and pay a small minimal fee to cover publishing services, unlike hybrid publishing where fees fall in the range of several thousand dollars. New Book Authors Publishing does not collect or share the author's royalties which is where the nontraditional distinction exists between the three publishing models. Under the non-traditional model authors are allowed to use their own imprint instead of the publisher's as part of their marketing and branding.

New Book Authors Publishing was founded in Madison Wisconsin by E.M. Hughes, a publishing and marketing expert with prior instructional experience at Madison College (2012-2018) and the now defunct creative writing program at University of Wisconsin's Writer's Institute where Hughes instructed in 2017. Additionally, Hughes was also popular for hosting independent seminars and publishing classes for authors in Wisconsin. The publisher launched New Book Authors with the goal of creating an author-friendly format that did not exploit authors financially while providing traditional level services. This commitment to fair treatment has resulted in positive reviews for the company.
