Moon of the Turning Leaves is a 2023 post-apocalyptic thriller novel by Waubgeshig Rice. It is the sequel to the 2018 novel Moon of the Crusted Snow and picks the story up a decade after Nicole Whitesky lead the surviving Anishinaabe community into the bush in northern Ontario Canada.
Plot
editThe story follows a small scouting party lead by Evan Whitesky and his daughter Nangohns as they search for a new home for the community in the ancestral lands of the Anishinaabe, the Great Lakes region in southern Ontario. The scouting party head south out of the bush and into what was a large city of 100,000 people, before the collapse. They are headed for where the birch trees grow by the big water, a place where the elders of the community remember from stories told by the originally displaced Anishinaabe.
