Monkey Puzzle Day Nurseries is a United Kingdom-based child-care provider[1]. It provides nursery and preschool care for children aged under 5 years old across England and Scotland. It's head office is based in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire.
Operating for over 20 years, Monkey Puzzle was the first nursery franchisor established in the United Kingdom. They are currently the largest franchisor of childcare settings in the United Kingdom, with over 70 sites nationwide and the third largest overall childcare provider.[2]
History
editFounded and operated by husband and wife team, Mark and Rebecca Crosby, Monkey Puzzle Day Nurseries traces its heritage in childcare back to 1976, when the first nursery was opened in Cambridgeshire by an earlier generation of the Crosby family (trading as Ladybird Day Nursery)[3].[4] This expanded into 3 further settings in Hertfordshire before rebranding under the Monkey Puzzle Day Nurseries name.
Continuing to grow, in 2002, Monkey Puzzle launched the first ever franchised nursery Islington, London. Since then, the company has expanded to well over 70 nursery settings[5] around the UK.
In 2019, Richard Blunden was appointed as the company's Group Managing Director[6] before moving to a Chief Executive Office position to prepare the business for a period of significant growth and development.
In early 2022, Monkey Puzzle recieved significant investment from the Imbiba group[7], allowing them to continue to to grow as a market leader in early years education and childcare.
Franchising
editMonkey Puzzle Day Nurseries was a pioneer in franchising, becoming the first day nursery franchise organisation in the UK.[8]
