Maurizio Croci (born 1970 in Varese, Italy) is an Italian and Swiss concert organist, harpsichordist, musicologist and artistic director of classical music festivals.[1] [2]
In research and playing, he is focused on Baroque and Renaissance music. Since 2005, he has also been Organ Professor at the Haute Ecole de Musique Vaud-Valais-Fribourg (Switzerland). He works also internationally as lecturer of masterclasses and juror in organ competitions.
Biography
Born in Varese (Italy), Croci studied Organ and Harpsichord in Conservatory of Milano and Conservatory of Trento (Italy) and continued at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis (Switzerland) with Jean-Claude Zehnder and Andrea Marcon. He graduated in 1995 in Musicology at Fribourg University with Prof. Luigi Ferdinando Tagliavini. In 1998, he was prize-winner at the “Paul Hofhaimer” International Competition of Innsbruck. In 2000, he performed the complete organ works of J.S. Bach in Bern.
In 1998, he founded the Fribourg Organ Academy in Switzerland with the mission to highlight the extraordinary richness of Fribourg's organ heritage. Since then, he is the Artistic Director[3] of the Festival International d’Orgue de Fribourg, that takes place every year in September since over 25 years. Since 2005, he has been member[4] of the Council of Artistic Directors of European Cities of Historic Organs (ECHO).
Between 2004 and 2022, Croci was Harpsichord Professor at the Civica Scuola di Musica Claudio Abbado in Milan, where he also acted as Head of Early Music Department from 2008 to 2013. In 2012, Croci founded the ensemble Il Pegaso, a versatile group formed by early music successful specialists.
Since 2020, Croci has been the Artistic Director [5] of the international early music festival Milano Arte Musica in Italy.
Croci has been invited to give master classes throughout Europe, Russia and Japan and has served on jurys of international competitions, including St Albans International Organ Competition (UK, in 2019[6]), International Organ Competition “Xavier Darasse” in Toulouse (France, 2021), International Schnitger Organ Competition in Alkmaar (2017).
Croci has played throughout Europe, Russia and Japan. Several of his concerts were broadcasted by radio and television (RAI, SDR, RNE, RSI, RSR, NPO).
