Matt Muehlebach (born September 17, 1968) is an American college basketball analyst who has worked for the Pac-12 Network and Fox/FS1. Muehlebach is a former college basketball player who played for Lute Olson at the University of Arizona, as well as a practicing attorney in Tucson, Arizona.
Muehlebach was the 31st-ranked player in the country by _______ coming out of Rockhurst High School in Kansas City, where he won a Missouri state championship. While a junior in high school at Bishop O’Dowd in Oakland, Muehlebach and his team finished runner up in the state championship to Stevie Thompson and Crenshaw high school. Muehlebach was a 3-year starter for Lute Olson at the University of Arizona, on the men’s basketball team from 1987-1991. He was part of Arizona’s first Final Four team in 1988, which featured Steve Kerr, Sean Elliott, Tom Tolbert, Kenny Lofton, Jud Buechler, Sean Rooks and Harvey Mason.
Muehlebach finished his career at Arizona as the 2 nd all-time assists leader, 3 rd leading 3 point percentage shooter (41.9%) and the first player in Arizona history to record a triple-double. The triple-double is the only recorded triple-double in Pac-12 tournament history, where he was also named the 1990 Co-Most Outstanding Player alongside his teammate and roommate at the time, Jud Buechler.
Muehlebach was a member of four consecutive Pac-12 Champions (1988-1991) and was the only player in Arizona history to be undefeated at the McKale Center during his four-year tenure (64-0). He was also a GTE Academic All-American in 1991, three-time First Team All-Pac-12 Academic selection, was voted MVP by his team after his senior season and was named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the year in 1991 by the media. Muehlebach graduated in 1991 with a degree in Political Science. Due to health issues, he was unable to continue playing basketball professionally and attended the University of Arizona Law School.
Muehlebach was a color commentator and studio analyst for the Pac-12 Network from 2012 to 2024. Muehlebach began his broadcast career delivering color commentary alongside long-time play-by-play man Brian Jeffries for Arizona Basketball in 2009. Muehlebach joined the Pac-12 Network in 2012 as a college basketball analyst on games and in the studio. He has served as co-host of Pac-12’s studio broadcasts since 2014, including the Pac-12 Tournament with Ashley Adamson, Mike Yam, Don McLean, Earl Watson and Casey Jacobson. He was often paired for game telecasts with Ted Robinson, Roxy Bernstein, Deron Sutton, JB Long, Guy Haberman and Drew Goodman. He has been paired with Kevin Burkhardt, Joe Davis, Rich Waltz and Dan Hellie for FS1 games. He was also paired with Cindy Brunson for her first game calling a Men’s Pac-12 basketball game and Jenny Cavnar, the first female play-by-play announcer for MLB.
Muehlebach received his J.D. degree from University of Arizona Law School in 1996. He worked for the prestigious firm of Hecker, Phillips & Zeeb (which became Hecker & Muehlebach) as a corporate and business attorney. He is currently General Counsel and Senior Vice-President for 5Lights, LLC, which is a private equity firm in Tucson, where he manages all legal functions of the company.
