Mahesh Ghattamaneni (born 9 August 1975), known professionally as Mahesh Babu, is an Indian actor, producer, media personality, and philanthropist who works mainly in Telugu cinema. One of the highest-paid actors in India, he has appeared in over 25 films and has received numerous accolades including eight Nandi Awards, five Filmfare Awards South, four SIIMA Awards, three CineMAA Awards, and one IIFA Utsavam Award.

Early Life and Education

Mahesh Babu was born on 9 August 1975 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India to veteran Telugu actor Krishna and Indira Devi. He spent most of his childhood in Chennai under the care of his maternal grandmother, Durgamma, and other family members. Mahesh Babu completed his schooling at St. Bede's Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School in Chennai, where he was classmates with actor Karthi. He later graduated with a bachelor's degree in commerce from Loyola College, Chennai. During his early years, Mahesh Babu showed an interest in acting and appeared as a child artist in several films.

Career

Mahesh Babu started his acting career as a child artist in Needa (1979) at the age of four. He made his debut as a lead actor with Raja Kumarudu (1999), which earned him the Nandi Award for Best Male Debut. He achieved stardom with films like Murari (2001), Okkadu (2003), and Athadu (2005). His performance in Okkadu as Ajay Varma, a kabaddi player, won him critical acclaim and established him as a leading actor in Telugu cinema.

In 2006, Mahesh Babu starred in Pokiri, directed by Puri Jagannadh, which became the highest-grossing Telugu film at the time. His portrayal of Pandu, a local goon with a mysterious past, was highly praised. He continued to deliver successful films such as Dookudu (2011), Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu (2013), Srimanthudu (2015), Bharat Ane Nenu (2018), and Sarileru Neekevvaru (2020).

In addition to acting, Mahesh Babu ventured into film production. He co-owns the production house G. Mahesh Babu Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., which has produced successful films like Srimanthudu and Maharshi (2019). Maharshi won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.

Personal Life

Mahesh Babu married Bollywood actress Namrata Shirodkar on February 10, 2005. The couple met on the sets of Vamsi (2000) and began dating shortly thereafter. They have two children, a son named Gautham Krishna and a daughter named Sitara. Despite his busy schedule, Mahesh Babu is known for maintaining a close-knit family life and often shares moments from his personal life on social media.

Philanthropy

Mahesh Babu is actively involved in philanthropy. He has adopted two villages in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, where he has initiated various development and welfare programs, including the construction of schools and healthcare facilities.
