History

edit

In 1932, the Willingdon Hospital was inaugurated outside Hathi Pol by the Earl of Willingdon, then Viceroy of India. After Indian independence, this hospital was renamed Maharana Bhupal Government Hospital.[5] It served as one of the largest public hospitals in Rajasthan, providing essential healthcare services to the region. By 1942, the Mewar State had five hospitals, numerous dispensaries, and anti-rabies centers. In 1943-44, a separate tuberculosis hospital was established.

In 1961, Maharana Bhupal Government Hospital affiliated with Rabindra Nath Tagore Medical College, Udaipur, founded on land donated by Maharana Bhagwat Singh Mewar. This affiliation strengthened the hospital’s role in medical education, positioning it as an essential training center for medical students.[6]
