- Comment: I would recommend reading this guide on citing sources. Also, the Daily Mail is a deprecated source, and should not be used. DrowssapSMM 00:03, 17 December 2023 (UTC)

MILWAUKEE 53206 is a 2016 criminal justice documentary directed and produced by Keith McQuirter[1] that aired on WORLD Channel’s “America ReFramed” television series. The documentary chronicles the lives of individuals residing in Milwaukee's ZIP code 53206, an area known for having the highest incarceration rate of black men in the United States, up to 62%. More than 60% have been imprisoned by age 34.
Through the narratives of three residents of this community, the film sheds light on the impact of mass incarceration on both individuals and families. By focusing on Milwaukee's ZIP code 53206, the documentary serves as a lens to explore the broader national narrative regarding the pervasive effects of mass incarceration in the United States.
Stories
editMilwaukee 53206 tells the story of Beverley Walker[2], wife of Baron Walker, a man incarcerated in the Wisconsin state prison system for over 21 years; Dennis Walton, a community organizer and activist, focused on working with incarcerated men through his work at the Milwaukee Fatherhood Initiative. Chad S.A. Wilson, recently released from prison, faced the ongoing challenges of reintegration into society, where long-standing difficulties persist.
AWARDS
“MILWAUKEE 53206” won the 2017 Grand Jury Prize for Best Feature Documentary at The 21st Annual Urbanworld Film Festival.
SOCIAL IMPACT The Center for Media and Social Impact, based at American University's School of Communication, reported on the film’s impact on communities. Through a multi-year strategic campaign that involved grassroots community screenings with faith-based communities as well as secular groups, “MILWAUKEE 53206” raised awareness about racially-based, excessive sentencing. Attorney Craig Mastantuono of Mastantuono Coffee & Thomas filed motions to secure the release of Baron Walker. Baron Walker was released on August 17, 2018, in part due to the documentary’s media attention and consequent legal involvement.
