Yurii Kanalosh, professionally known as Lue Bason, is a Ukrainian singer, songwriter, producer, and model. Born on January 18, 1994, in Pavlovo, Ukraine, Known in Ukraine as a finalist in the national selection for Eurovision and various TV shows. In 2023, he released his debut solo EP, 142.
Biography
editLue Bason was born and raised in the small village of Pavlovo in western Ukraine. From a young age, he aspired to be more than societal expectations, dreaming of a career in music and acting.
At 14, Bason began his music education at a college in Ukraine and participated in the first season of Ukrainian X-Factor in 2010. Despite withdrawing due to his voice breaking, he continued writing songs for fun, releasing his first mixtape in 2016.
Financial difficulties led Lue Bason to drop out of university in 2014 and move to China, where he worked as a singer and model, performing in major cities. During his time in China, he learned English and started writing songs in English.
Returning to Ukraine in 2018, Bason participated in The Voice Ukraine and received an offer from a U.S. record label, which didn't materialize due to not being able to , leading to a period of severe depression. Bouncing back, he joined the Ukrainian X-Factor Season 10 in 2019, becoming the frontman for a band.
The pandemic prompted Lue Bason to briefly leave the band, but he returned in 2021. That year, he released his first solo song, "The Best." In 2022, he participated in the Eurovision national selection, reaching the finals. However, Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 forced Bason to flee to Germany.
In Germany, Lue Bason's musical journey took a new direction thanks to connections made by mutual friends, ultimately leading him to Jens Zimmermann, a German entrepreneur. Collaborating with the talented composer and piano player Hannes Opferkuch, they worked together on the production of Lue's first song after the war, "Star," a project of personal significance.
In September, Lue achieved a milestone by performing "Star" live for the first time at the PIXUM SUPER CUP GAME in Dusseldorf, Germany. The audience's positive response paved the way for subsequent performances, including one in Stuttgart, Germany, at another handball game in December 2022. Another significant event took place at the Four Hills Tournament in Oberstdorf, Germany, where Lue took the stage in front of over 25,000 viewers, marking his most significant solo performance in the country.
The journey of "Star" continued as the song caught the attention of BMG Production Music. Impressed by the composition, the resulting EP, titled "142," was released on April 7th, 2023, featuring four songs that explore Lue's inner struggles and life challenges. Each song holds deep personal significance, drawing inspiration from different periods in Lue's life, shaped by personal events and reflective of his struggles and traumas. The title of the EP, "142," carries a special meaning, serving as a reference to Lue's home address and symbolizing pride in his roots. Shortly after the EP's release, Lue showcased his musical talent on prominent German radio stations, SWR1 and SWR3. In December 2023, he revealed a new track titled "Not A Slave," offering a glimpse into his upcoming project, "The Art Of Insanity."
