Left Angle is a deep tech SAS (Société par Actions simplifiée) start-up that develops professional software applications and cloud-based solutions for motion graphics, VFX (visual effects) /compositing, and mass personalized video production.[1].
The company mission is to provide modern solutions to improve workflows and optimize the use of modern computer hardware capabilities.
Left Angle's main office space is located in INRIA research lab in Grenoble, France. The company has JEI (Jeune Entreprise Innovante) status which recognizes Left Angle as a new, innovative company that invests in research and development[1][2].
History
editLeft Angle was founded by software developer Alexandre Gauthier-Foichat and longtime graphic designer François Grassard in 2019.[1][3][2]
Alexandre worked as a research and development (R&D) engineer at French research institute INRIA, in computer vision. His work involved exploring tasks in digital compositing, including tracking moving objects, background subtraction, stereo calibration, and 3D camera pose estimation. During this time he developed Natron, an open-source compositing software[3][1][4] for which he won a Digital Creation Genie Award at the Paris Digital Summit in 2015.[5] François who was a Natron user subsequently worked with Alexandre to identify industry pain points and they eventually founded Left Angle.
Left Angle's first product was a motion graphics / VFX / compositing software application released in January 2023 under the name Autograph[3][6][7]. In March 2023, the company remarketed the product under two tiers: Autograph Studio for studios and Autograph Creator for freelancers[8]
Autograph is considered to be an After Effects alternative software application[9][10][11] and is supported on Microsoft Windows, MacOS, and Linux.
Left Angle has received numerous awards for its research and development work, contribution to the French economy, and innovation, including i-Lab 2020[12] and i-Nov 2021[13] awards.[14]
