Karl Dean (born 5 January 1972) is a British Canadian stock trader, venture capitalist, and angel investor. Dean is also the founder of Dark Pool Trading, a platform to help people learn to trade in financial markets.

Early Life and Education edit

Dean was born in Liverpool, England, and later his family moved to South Africa and then to Ontario, Canada. In the early 1980s, they moved to Calgary, Alberta.

Dean became a scuba diver in his early teens, continued diving regularly, and eventually logged over 5000 dives. He became a scuba instructor and taught for over ten years. In 1999, Dean earned an Advanced Math and Physics degree from Mount Royal University.

In 1999, Dean attended school to get his accounting degree with the Certified General Accounts Association of Alberta (CGA). After his third year, he moved to pursue Emergency Medicine at the University of Calgary. In 2004, he got a Structural Drafting Certificate from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT).

In 1997, he founded GSI Ltd. GSI Ltd was formed after he developed software with his father for Scuba Divers to log their dives. Their software and apparel line are called Underwater Alien.

Dean has worked on many projects, including SAGD, mining, oil, and gas facilities as a professional structural designer. He later moved into the stock market and investing business. Dean has over 25 years of experience in stock market trading and investing, including venture capitalism.

In 2005, he found and began working with a mentor. In 2007, he founded Alien Investments Corp.

In September 2008, Dean took time away from his engineering job to trade the financial crisis, shorting the failing banking and mortgage companies, including Lehman Brothers, Bear Stearns, Freddie Mac, and Fannie Mae.

Dean founded Dark Pool Trading to inspire new traders to get proper education for trading. In the beginning, Dark Pool trading started with the name Black Money Traders. During the peak of the COVID years, it was changed to Dark Pool Trading.
