History edit

Established as part of India's extensive network of lighthouses, Kachhigadh Lighthouse stands near the historical port of Jakhau, which was an important maritime center up to the 16th century. The lighthouse is featured in "Indian Lighthouses – An Overview," a comprehensive book detailing the lighthouses of India. This book, authored by Shri R.K. Bhanti, Director (Civil), is a result of two years of extensive research and site visits, aiming to preserve the rich maritime heritage of India.[2]

Structure and operation edit

The lighthouse is known for its strategic geographical location and robust modern radar infrastructure, which enhances the maritime safety and navigational capabilities in the region. It also contributes significantly to meteorological research, providing essential data for weather forecasting and maritime planning.

Tourism and cultural significance edit

Recognized for its historical and strategic importance, Kachhigadh Lighthouse was included in the first Lighthouse Festival in 2021, an initiative by the Indian government to promote lighthouses as tourist destinations. This festival is part of a broader effort to celebrate and rejuvenate the maritime history of India's 75 iconic lighthouses. [3]
