Joseph Pagnol, born on 25 October 1869 in Vaison-la-Romaine (Vaucluse) and died on 8 November 1951 in Marseille, was a French teacher, and father of the writer and filmmaker Marcel Pagnol.
Joseph’s personality and family life are presented in the series of the four Autobiographical novels of the Souvenirs d'enfance, and more particularly in La Gloire de mon père and Le Château de ma mère.
Biography
editJoseph is the son of André Pagnol, companion of the Tour de France, stonemason in Valréas, then in Marseille. André Pagnol was crowned “first companion” of the Bouches-du-Rhône region and was sent to Paris for the restoration of l'Hôtel de Ville.
