Jianna Rose Evaristo (born August 25, 1997) is an American NHRA drag racer. She is the 3rd daughter of drag racer Mike Salinas and the sister of fellow racer Jasmine Salinas.
Racing Career
editEarly Career
editJianna began competing in Junior Drag Racing at age 10 alongside her 3 sisters, Jasmine, Jacquelin, and Janae. She was introduced to street riding in 2015 and fell in love with 2 wheels.
NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle
editIn 2019, Evaristo made her professional debut in Pro Stock motorcycle and finished her rookie season 15th in points. She appeared on the cover of Drag Illustrated's 'Women of Power' issue with her sister, Jianna.[1] In a major upset, Evaristo scored her first career win at the Pomona season finale[2]. She was also a Finalists for Auto Club Road to the Future award.
Jianna, along with the entire Scrappers Racing team sat out of the 2020 Season due to COVID-19.
In 2021, she qualified at 8 races and set career-best ET and speed records.
In 2022, Evaristo joined forces with 6x Champion Matt Smith Racing and became their 3rd full-time rider. She posted career-best times in Reading (6.870 seconds) and Dallas (198.65 mph).
In 2023, Jianna had a career best season, including making her first 200 mph pass[3] and qualifying 5th in the world during the Championship Countdown.
Chicago Crash
editOn June 2, 2019, Jianna Salinas experienced a high speed crash at the Route 66 NHRA Nationals outside Chicago.[4] After earning her first career round win in an upset defeat of a higher-qualified Hector Arana, she faced off Hector Arana Jr. in round 2.
During the run, her bike drifted toward the centerline. Evaristo fought to keep her Suzuki in her own lane but the bike eventually she struck the 1,000-foot speed and elapsed time blocks. The bike then laid over onto its bodywork before careening into the guardrail.
Jianna was able to separate herself from the bike before it carried her into the wall with it. She was able to get up under her own power and emerged from the incident with only minor bruises and road rash. Evaristo was transported to the hospital for further evaluation.
Personal Life
editSalinas is of Dutch-Indonesian and Mexican-Commanche-Spanish descent. Her family resides in the San Francisco Bay Area in California. She is the 3rd born of four daughters. She is the daughter of NHRA Top Fuel driver Mike Salinas and the sister of Top Fuel driver Jasmine Salinas.
She attended San Jose State University where she received a degree in Child Development.
In 2022, she married her high school sweetheart in a private ceremony. Salinas currently resides in Santa Maria, California with her husband, First Lieutenant Eldrich Evaristo. When she's not racing, she works for the family business, Valley Services.
