The James Weldon Johnson Literary Guild was an organization supporting African American literary arts. It awarded prizes. Roberts Bosley Hubert founded the group.[1] It was led by women civic leaders and supported literscy programs.[2]
Jacob Lawrence talked about the organization and its influence on him in an interview.[3] The group aponsored his firdt one-man art show in 1939.[4] It also gave an award to Claude McKay.
Yale University has a collection of James Weldon Johnson's correspondence with the group from 1932 to 1938.[5]
