Jacky Vike is a Kenyan actress who played Awinja Nyamwalo in a TV series Papa Shirandula that aired on Citizen TV.[1]
Vike is an actress, comedian, yoga instructor, dancer and mother of one boy.
Early life and education
editVike was born and raised in Eastleigh area in Kenya's capital of Nairobi. She is the third born in a family of five. She undertook her primary school education at Heshima Primary School and after Kegoye secondary school she joined started acting. She natured are acting skills through travelling theatre that staged set-book plays in secondary schools in Kenya.[2]
Her love for acting started when she was in standard 4 where she used to perform in choral verses and music she however took the acting career seriously when she met storyteller Joel Kennedy Otukho during the national drama festival when she was in high school.
Her mother wanted her to be a flight attendant, but Vike later quit after only one semester when she found out it wasn't her career choice.
Career
editVike professionally started her acting career started in 2008 when she joined Theatrerix – Ensemble, a travelling theatre that staged set-book plays in secondary schools in Kenya.[3]
She later joined Heartstrings in 2009 and acted in the popular play at the time, News made in Kenya. She also featured in a TV series Wash and Set as a schoolgirl, the series aired on NTV.
By the end of 2009, Vike was offered a role in the citizen TV show Papa Shirandula as Awinja Nyamwalo.[3][4][4] She was called up to join Papa Shirandula by Charles Bukeko who was the lead cast in the series.[3]
