JCPenney Holdings was a former holding company based in Nashville that was launched by JCPenney to acquire some stores based in areas of Tennessee in 1963. Their subsidiaries are Rosie's Supermarket, which is a chain of hypermarkets based in Memphis, Elise's which is a discount store similar to TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Burlington, or Ross based in Knoxville, Maxwell's, which is an appliance store based in Chattanooga, Lindon's, which is a furniture store based in Lynchburg, and Cook's Store, which is a vehicle store based in Clarksville. Most of these stores are now JCPenney, Elise's was founded in 1902 but got rebranded to JCPenney in 1994, Maxwell's was founded in 1938 but got rebranded to JCPenney in 2004, Lindon's was founded in 1926 but got rebranded to JCPenney in 1992, and Cook's Store, which was founded in 1939 but got rebranded to JCPenney in 1985. Rosie's Supermarket is still in business, however JCPenney Holdings sold Rosie's Supermarket in 2014, thus ending JCPenney Holdings and allowing Rosie's Supermarket to open stores internationally
