The Indonesian Army Adjutant General's Corps (Indonesian: Direktorat Ajudan Jenderal Angkatan Darat) is a Service Support Directorate General of the Indonesian Army responsible for many of its general administrative services and recruitment work.[1] This Corps, established in 1949 with its modern form dating from 1950, is responsible for providing personnel service support by manning the force, providing human resources services, coordinating personnel support, Army military band and field music operations, and recruiting and retention of its military personnel and civilian employee workforce.
Brief history edit
The Army AGC was officially established on December 10, 1949, under the young independent government of the United States of Indonesia, functioning as a directly reporting unit of the office of the Chief of Staff of the Army per Decree 126/MOD/1949 of the Ministry of Defense. Until recognition of independence, various activities and organizational institutions were already performing the duties of the military adjutantcy general during the National Revolution within the Army even though it is very simple, not integrated, and not even centralized at the national level but in regional formations. Decree 126 formally established the office and duties of the adjutancy general of the Army for operations of nationwide scale in support of the missions assigned to the force.
At its formal beginnings it was then the A Staff Office under the office of the Chief of Staff. It was responsible for the formal organization of the Army's administrative services, recruitment, retention and the maintenance of military cemeteries within the country.
It's Corps Day is marked on December 28, the anniversary of Decree TAP 300/ KSAD/PNT/50 of the Chief of Staff of the Army enacted in 1950, which established the current day Directorate of the Adjutant General's Corps, and also enacted measures to implement the Army's Central Registration Number system apllying lessons made during the National Revolution period.

The current Headquarters of the Army AGC is located in Bandung, West Java, where it has been based since 1985.
The Army AGC is led by the Adjutant General of the Army, an officer of brigadier general rank, and the Deputy Adjutant, an officer holding colonel rank, who are both appointed and relieved by orders of the Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army. The Adjutant General is also responsible for the operational control of the Lembang based Adjutant General's Corps Training School (Pusat Pendidikan Ajudan Jenderal (Pusdikajen)), a directly reporting agency of the Indonesian Army Doctrine, Education and Training Development Command.
J1/AG and JC operations edit
The Adjutant General Indonesian Army is responsible for the overall national level general planning, providing, and coordination of the delivery of HR support, services, or information to all assigned and attached personnel, whether be of military, civil service or civilian employee status, Army-wide. It also helps in the organization of all of the Army's civil activities, either national or regional level, in the performance of the duties entrusted to it.[2] To this goal the Adjutant General is assisted by the following officers:
- All 15 Adjutant Generals J1 of the Regional Military Commands[3]
- Adjutant Generals of the Army Strategic Reserves Command and Kopassus
- The Adjutant Generals G1 of the three Kostrad Infantry Divisions
- Adjutants G1 of all Infantry Brigades, the 1st Cavalry Brigade, the 1st and 2nd Air Defense Artillery Regiments, all Kopassus Brigades and 81st SF Regiment, and all Kostrad Field Artillery Regiments
- Adjutants G1 of all Military Areas[4]
- Adjutants G1 of all battalion level formations of the Army
- Adjutants S1 of all Military Districts
- Adjutants S1 of all company level formations of the Army
- Adjutants S1 of all Military Sectors
These Adjutants are the principal staff advisor to the Commander for all matters concerning HR support within their units or military territorial formations. They also head the AGC offices stationed within their respective AOR.
Staff and personnel support edit
The Corps' principal duty is to provide the Army with amble recruits and newly hired civil service and civilian employee personnel for the goal of fulfilling the Army's principal responsibilities to the nation. To this goal, the Corps provides the Army with specialist HR and retention support in order to help it perform its tasks of national defense and civil-military cooperation (CIMIC).
Overall, the Adjutant General's Corps' military and civilian personnel are assigned to the regional and unit adjutants stationed all over the country. The Regional or Command Unit Adjutant General's or Adjutant's Offices are manned by qualified military personnel who are graduates of the Adjutant General's Corps Training School, civil service personnel and civilian university graduates who perform the following functions:
- providing needed critical HR strength management capacity, technical expertise, analysis, assessment, training and assistance, as well as casualty and replacement capabilities in support of the execution and management of operational and tactical HR support
- coordinating and providing personnel accountability operations and database inputs
- and providing mission command and planning, logistics and maintenance support, and technical support
Military band and field music supervision edit
The Adjutant General's Corps is also responsible for the operational control and supervision over all Army territorial and combat unit Military bands (Detasemen/Satuan/Korps Musik Militer Upacara, including associated ensembles assigned to these bands[5]) and all field music formations (whether be corps of drums, fanfare bands and drum and bugle corps of military formations (Drum Band/Drum Corps) and all security or guard post field music formations, termed as Genderang Sangkakala). These bands and military field music formations provides musical support for military camps and bases, military training facilities, military territorial areas, and communities across the country. In addition, the Corps operates the Kartika Orchestra, founded by the late Chief of Staff General Ahmad Yani in March 1965.[6] It was and still is the first traditional classical orchestra ever to be founded within the Indonesian National Armed Forces, aimed at fostering awareness on classical orchestral pieces, as well as modern works, modern pop music and traditional folk and everyday music from the provinces. It's string, brass, woodwind and orchestral percussion musicians, together with the native instrumental musicians playing the traditional music of the country are joined by the musicians of the Band of the Adjutant General's Corps as multipliers. The AGCTS serves as the de facto School of Military Music and provides the necessary musical and ceremonial training and educational work for both bandsmen and field musicians, as well as leadership training for bandmasters, drum majors and directors of music, with military music-related study courses. Upon graduation, students of the school are deployed to the Army's bands and field music formations.
